Ghost Giveawy Extra Entry Opportunity!

Okay--one more ghost story, because I'm sooo loving everyone's ghostly entries in the Ghost Week Giveaway! (enter now--you could win a RARE ARC of SHADOWED SUMMER by Saundra Mitchell--among other super cool prizes--awesome, right?!?! Scroll down to enter!)

So one year for my birthday (Nov. 30) I wanted to take all of my friends up to our lake cabin for a sleepover weekend. We were probably 12 or 13 years old. It was pretty cold and rainy and at the time we were pretty obsessed with playing with the Ouija board and trying to find out which of the eighth grade boys were going to be our future husbands.

So naturally, as the sun fell and darkness rose up, we fished out the board and started asking questions. One of the ghosts was a little whack. He seemed to be asking us questions. Kind old dirty old man questions, specifically about one of my friends.

Now, I should mention that we all felt like one of the girls was moving the eye-thing. The Ouija board only seemed to work for her. *cough* wasn't me *cough* However, with this ghost it didn't seem to matter whose fingers were on it. It moved and it moved fast. It was starting to scare us, always asking about--we'll call her Suzy. And Suzy was not amused. We couldn't get him to go away.

I went up and and asked my mom what we should do. (How cute, right?) Mom suggested we put the Ouija board in the freezer. We all laughed, but gave it a try. About 30 minutes later we pull it out and asked if he was still there. He was! We asked if he was cold, LOL. He was! We asked him to leave. He asked us about Suzy. We put him back int he freezer. This last most of the evening. His responses got slower and slower, but he was always there.

I'm pretty sure that we sold with lake house with the Ouija board still in the freezer. I wonder what the new owners thought.

Does anyone else have spooky Ouija board stories--share one for an extra entry in the giveaway?

No, we never played with them-my mom was against it when I was a kid. But I love the idea of putting it in the freezer!! That made me laugh-thanks so much for sharing!:)

hahah that is hilarious. I've never used one, no. I don't even think I could name a person who ever had one...that I knew.

It's fun to see movies or read books where people use them and something happens! It would be highly interesting, but verryyy freaky. LOL

I've never used an ouija board, probably because the idea of contacting an unknown entity is terrifying. But I'm curious...

I remember playing this with a friend in middle school and it spelled out the name of her stepdad and then gun. That completely freaked us out and we put the board away but I was so scared that I never went over to their house again.

My parents (and all the parents of my friends) were very against them. So I've never even seen one. But I have heard some scary stories about them over the years. Like how someone asked about someone who recently died and it spelled out "I am here" and then they heard a loud knocking. Creepy!

Lawl! I would love to use one but I haven't ever in my life!

Nope,I think they sound cool but my friends are freaked out by the mere mention of Bloody Mary so I don't think they would cooperate with me wanting to use a Ouija board! Loved reading your story though :)

I've half way used one at my friend's birthday party in fifth grade. We didn't really use it, just sent half the people out of the room while we screamed, pretending that we heard something using the board. Then we hid while the people rushed in. Twas funny.

When I was about 7 or 8, I spent the night at my neighbor's house and we tried to use one with the help of her older sister. I can't remember what we even asked, but it creeped me out when the little thing started moving. I told my friend and her sister that I knew that the sister was really the one moving the thing, but I really wasn't sure and couldn't sleep that night. I've not used on since.

I was too afraid to use one...besides, they are rather rare here. There are plenty of scary stuff going on to try to look for more! (shiver)

Good morning Brooke,

My friend's Mom had a conversion van when we were young. We use to sleep in there on the weekend. Shut all the window curtains, break out the Ouija board, & scare the "be-jesus" out of ourselves. Some nights we ended up on the living room floor sleeping!!!

Thank you,
Susan

I have never used one, but we rented this house in Wyoming that had one hidden in it once. I remember hating the basement and never really knowing why. When I had to go down there I used to run past the laundry room. That room always scared me bad. We were getting ready to move and my mom was in the laudry room making sure we didn't forget anything and went to double check the closet under the stairs. There were alot of left over lumber under there. According to my mother she didn't even touch the wood, the wood just parted down the center and there was a ouji board. It is odd that we never saw it before because we have all been in that closet tons of times. Needs less to say we didn't sleep in the house again, we stay in our camper trailer until it was time to leave.

We never played with them growing up, but one of my friends Kenny told us about using one at a party once. He said that one of his friends was goofing off and asked the board when he was going to die and the board answered tonight. Supposedly, according to my friend Kenny that guy got into a bad car accident that night and died. Another friend of mine was telling me about her aunt using one and how it was giving them creepy answers to questions so they threw the board away. They watched the garbage man actually pick it up and like two days later they found it back in their garage again…

Yep, that’s exactly why I can’t play with those things they scare the crap out of me (LOL).

haha! your story was hilarious. i never really believed ouija boards work, so i've never used one. I have one sitting in my toy box, though.

Unfortunately, i can't get an extra entry. For some reason, Ouija boards have always reminded me of the movie Jumanji...

I know we tried it at one of my birthday parties in middle school (birthday this close to Halloween = no one questioning all the creepy stuff you do at parties) but one girl was really grumpy the *whole* time so I don't recall it-or anything, really-working...

I don't know if I really tried it after that and then we moved a few times and now I have no idea where it is...it always creeped me out though because I've really believed something could happen so I probably didn't try too much because of that

I've never really used one (one, it's a bit creepy, two, I totally don't trust people not to move it,) but in high school, two of my friends were messing with one... It's sort of less creepy and more interesting, though.

First friend asked when he would die, the Ouija board gave a number of years he had left, let's say 82.

Second friend goes, "That strikes me as a brilliant idea" and asks the same question. Ouija board goes "1" and stops.

Second friend is freaked out, and they put the Ouija board away.

One year later, my friend had a really big change in his life - and I always considered it a sort of death of the old him and birth of the new one.

Then again, I am possibly kind of weird.

I was really into spooky things as a teenager and remember visiting haunted places from the Weird NJ magazines. I always wanted to bring a ouija board with me to try out but we had to be on our toes to run from the cops when they caught us for trespassing.

I did use a ouija board in my friend's new house when I was little after her constantly telling me it was haunted. I don't think we ever got it to say anything but it sure was fun!

I've played with one once and that was enough for me, especially when the closet door started to open! Noooo ways was I going to play with it again!

I've never played! But my friends have told me stories where they talked to the ghost of Kurt Cobain. Too far-fetched!
