Okay, my first entry for this. I would called a geek first and foremost for my insane love of reading. I love spending time in the library and book store and I just read book after book, even when I have to read other stuff for school. It's an addiction, but I love it. :)

What makes me a geek? What doesn't? Hmm, how about, my favorite outfit involves my white lab coat, hair net, face mask, goggles, and a pipette? Science geeks rule!

My first entry is because I love RPG games. Final Fantasy is my favortie!! I even want to name my children after them. Yuna and Gabbarth!!

Oh goodness Brooke, you don't want me to list all the ways I'm a geek-I could probably go past ten!

#1 reason I'm a geek-I love Star Trek. I had a HUGE crush on Tom Paris from Star Trek Voyager when I was in high school. I even went to a convention and met him. It was pretty awesome and there were lots of other great actors there too. I'm even using the Star Trek Voyager theme in my upcoming wedding and we're taking a picture with everyone doing the Vulcan sign! We're thinking of ending the whole thing with "live long and prosper" too.

GreenBeanTeenQueen said...

I also posted about it over here:

Ok, I just can't resist from sharing all my geeky wedding things.
-I'm walking down the aisle to Hedwig's theme
-we're somehow incorporating "One Ring to rule them all" into the vows
-we're making a "no admittance except on party buisness" sign from LOTR movie
-I'm wearing a 50's style dress, so my flower girls are wearing poodle skirt (not really geeky, but just fun!)
-the bridesmaids are walking down the theme from The Princess Bride
-There will be at least one picture taken of me reading a book :)
-A statue of Dobby will be watching over our food table
-Instead of one guest book, we're placing books we loved growing up on each table and having everyone at that table write us a message inside
-our bridal party dance will be to White and Nerdy

Ok, have I convinced you yet? :)

Well... I'm a geek because I decided to leave home at 16 and attend a school designed for extremely gifted students. It seriously is a school for geeks. The school mascot is a unicorn and I think that it's amazing! I also have a sincere love for sci-fi and fantasy.

Thanks Brooke! I don't know about a trek tattoo, but I do remember that five high school girls at a convention was a little rare. I'll be sure to post pictures on my blog of all the geekiness in the wedding.
It helps that I'm a librarian and I get to work with other geeks on a daily basis too.

First entry: I'm a huge geek because unlike most sixteen year olds I would rather curl up with a good book then hang out with other people! Some would call me a loner, but I prefer the term geek.

VioletReads said...

I'm primarily a theater geek. As in, Ph.D. in theater history. You don't get any geekier than writing a dissertation!

Shooting Stars Mag said...

Second reason for being a geek: I'm obsessed with the show Hollyoaks. Not sure what that is? Well, it's this soap opera in the UK and I can only watch it through youtube videos that people post. Yeah, it's a bit geeky, but I'm in love with the show and I'll sit for hours catching up on the latest and finding older sections of episodes that are fun to watch.

-Lauren

VioletReads said...

This is super fun! I posted it here: http://violetreads.blogspot.com/2009/04/too-fun-not-to-share.html

And reason #2 I'm a geek: I host a weekly bad scifi viewing. We've watched such classics as Teenagers from Outer space, which has the *best* special effects ever!

My geekiest gesture and or hobby? Freaking out over the release of a book, or even information surround that book. One time I was reading a small excerpt months ago from Cassandra Clare's Myspace concerning City of Glass, and after reading the excerpts I went into my room and screamed really loud in excitement...You couldn't even imagine how mad my parents got when they rushed upstairs...

Jenna said...

How is thou a geek? Let me count the ways:

- I spend more time reading fanfiction and surfing the web than I spend with my (real) friends.
- I never go to any school sports games.
- I LOVE my Advanced Video Production Class. (AV Gekk, ftw!)
- I type things like ftw!

Oh and so much more that's to geeky to reveal.

#4 Reason for Being a Geek: Being obsessed with RENT and getting it stuck in my head at really random times. My friends and I used to have rent nights and we'd literally go to each other's houses and watch the film...over and over and over...and I kept trying to spread the love, but it never really worked with some people. Darn!

Evidence of my geekhood:
1. In second grade, spent my recesses rearranging books in the library (I couldn't go outside, due to pneumonia)
2. First job--library page.
3. Watched every original Star Trek episode, and every single spin off show.
4. Love old sitcoms, such as I Love Lucy and Dick Van Dyke.
5. Wear glasses, never wear dresses or skirts, and own a bare minimum of makeup.

4. my friends are so worried I will show up at my college graduation looking like a nerd they are monitoring my dress/shoes selection by the minute

5. I am obsessed with Doris Day musicals like The Pajama game

And also a speling / gramar nerd, is I.

Not funny, I know.

Maybe my fist entry for this, in 2007 I read 160 books, in 2008 I only read 130. Thats the way I see it 'only 130'. I've been told this is very geeky of me and i should take my nose out of the books for at least five minutes. Which is how i got addicted to the interweb.
